Hey everyone! I'm really excited at the moment because I'm making jewellery for a few people for Christmas this year and my order of beads and findings should arrive tomorrow. That's not what this post is about though.

My friend has just had a baby and I want to give her something special.

Who is the gift for? My friend. She's 22 and we live in England. Her baby was born in the early hours of Monday morning. I'd also like to make something for the baby if possible, but I'm not sure what (the baby's a girl).

What is the occasion? New baby!

List at least three of their interests: She likes cats, she likes knitting but the cat likes to attack her knitting, politics, clothes, shoes, jewellery, nature, gaming, food.

Any stipulations or things to avoid (i.e., has to be something small, or they already have enough scarves, etc.): She's allergic to a lot of things. She really, really can't have nuts. I wanted to give her something to treat herself with if she got an hour or so to herself, like bubble bath or something, but I don't know exactly what she's allergic to and what will affect her skin (she has really bad eczema).

What kind of crafting do you do? I make jewellery and I can bake. I also like decorating things, such as photo frames. I'm rubbish at making most things (I can't knit or draw or anything). I'm currently playing with clay, but so far I can only really make beads, haha, or things cut out with cookie cutters. I made this particular friend a calendar for her first wedding anniversary and she loved that.

Name some other crafts that you would be willing to try: I think I'd quite like to give scrapbooking a go.

Do you have a price range for materials? As cheap as possible, I'm really short on money.

Do you have a time limit to make this present? Just as soon as possible!

Any other information you'd like to include: I'd like to give her something for HER to enjoy and pamper/treat herself with. I'd also like to give her something else that's sentimental, you know like those boxes for the first lock of hair/tooth, or a nice photo frame. Something like that, that's related to the baby and she can keep. I was thinking maybe some sort of baby book - does anyone have any great and quite simple examples of those?

Thank you! When I get my jewellery made, I'll post pictures, and at some point I'll also post pictures of things I've made for my mum in the last couple of years.

Hey everyone! I've been in such a creative mood lately I'm surprised my hands could keep up with the ideas in my head. Just thought I'd share with you what I've been up to.

Hello everyone: I just joined this community. I believe it's a terrific idea to have a place where to go to ask help for cheap hand-made gifts. I don't have money enough to buy what my dear-ones wish to own, but I have lot of love and good disposition to give them something nice and sweet.
I wanted to ask your help, though, because what I lack is ideas... :S I don't know what to make to them!

Who is the gift for? My parents, aunt and uncle, and two little cousins. Also I was wondering if you could recomend me of something nice to make for both my grandmothers.

What is the occasion?
Christmas!

List at least three of their interests:

My Mother likes Mexican Soap Operas, especially one she's watching now called "Sortilegio" and an old one called "Corazón Salvaje", also likes romantic novels, and cakes (but she's on a diet so I'm not so sure about giving her sugar).

My Father loves technology! And Sci-Fi. He's a huge fan of Stark-Treck and Stargate.

My Aunt is a candle lover, she likes ornements most of all, she's also a fan of Mexican Soap Operas, and as my mom, she's currently very into "Sortilegio".

My Uncle is a soccer fan. A very sporty guy that stop training a few years ago, but still enjoys to watch the games. He runs and owns a Soccer School for kids.

My Cousins:

One is Joel, who's nine years old. He's a huge Soccer fan too, especially Cristiano Ronaldo, also like to play with his Wii and this Nintendo DS.

The other one is Adriana, who's 11. She's like a little princess, always making her hair and dressing pretty and all. She's a normal teen, loves HSM, and other lot of Teenagers TV Shows.

Any stipulations or things to avoid (i.e., has to be something small, or they already have enough scarves, etc.): Well, with my mother I must avoid anything that has too much sugar. So, I believe food is not a good option. Nothing else, I believe.

What kind of crafting do you do? I can draw. I'm pretty good at it. Making poster, or small drawings. I can kind of sew by hand a little bit. Nothing to fancy. But I'll do anything you recomend me that's not to expensive, and that's not so difficult to learn, since I don't have a lot of time.

Name some other crafts that you would be willing to try: ANYTHING that's not to hard to learn, since I have little time :(

Do you have a price range for materials? Well this is hard. I'm not american, but I can't afford a lot of money. The cheapest the best!

Do you have a time limit to make this present? Christmas Eve! :O

Any other information you'd like to include: This is a relative sad Christmas because my country situation has only gotten worst than ever. All of my family seem to be celebrating only because we're supposed to, but nobody's trully enjoying Christmas, and I'd love to bring a little bit to spirit to our home. I'd be incredibly thankful to anyone who would help me to make my gift. Also, I wanted to apologize for my horrible English! :( I swear I understeand a lot better than how I write.

How do you distinguish the boundaries between giving and being taken advantage of?
Should lack of reciprocity result in less giving, or do you let yourself be taken advantage of, knowing they will have to answer to it later?

So I have an atheist slowly working his way into my youth group. 17. Typical perverted male. Senior. Switches girlfriends like clothes. He's been coming for over a year now and nothing's really happened except he's edging towards be agnostic.

Suggestions in any area (acceptance, teaching, witnessing etc.) are more than welcome. I love this kid to death but sometimes...

Hi there! Does anybody know how to make some homemade gift boxes?

I am not looking for boxes to decorate extensively, but rather to put some of the fantastic t-shirts I have made for my family and friends inside of them, and wrap them up.
I have A LOT of boxes in my recycling (cereal, food boxes, etc.), along with materials including all kinds of tape, glues, hot glue gun, staples, etc.

Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you!

I'm making a giant framed scrapbook-page-type thing for my MIL for the holiday. It will contain a pinned-up onesie that says "Grandma loves me," a photo of her holding my baby son wearing that onesie, and an inkprint of his feet. I'm trying to think of a title for it, but I'm at a loss. I've googled and read thousands of titles, but nothing is jumping out at me. (Originally I was going to have his handprints as well and title it "Tiny fingers, tiny toes," but have you ever tried to get a two-month old to uncurl his hands to get a print?? Impossible! His fingernails will be green for a long time.) Any suggestions for titles, especially involving feet or grandmas?

Hello ya'll!

I have two cousins whom I'm crafting Christmas gifts this year. One of them is easy as pie. But the other, he's a bit more difficult to work with. I know for a fact that he loves Mario and Pokemon. I wanted to stencil him a shirt with some freezer paper.

If anybody could offer some suggestions as to what I could stencil him I would be thrilled! I'm just completely stumped. He's twelve now, so I want to make him a really cool shirt.

Thank you! All suggestions are appreciated!

Hi everyone!

I've been watching this comm for quite awhile...but this is my first post!

I'm currently trying to remove painted on letters on a guitar pick that I'm trying to turn into a gift, but I don't know how to get the letters off...Help please? Will nail polish remover work? Rubbing alcohol?

Thanks!

(I hope I tagged this properly...)

-EDIT- I took the acetone idea suggested (b/c I had nail polish remover) and it came right off (although the ink smeared a bit...) thank you!!

Ohmigosh I'm freaking out!
I bought all my gifts on ebay!
And I'm so afraid that they won't be here in time for christmas!!
I just wanna make something cheap, and easy to tide everyone over till their gifts get here.

I can draw, I can do a lil hand sewing...

I thought of maybe just baking a bunch of cookies and putting them in gift bags.
But I don't know.

Can someone help me?
:/

I looked over the results of the poll along with the amount of submissions this week, and it looks like you guys either prefer the new theme style, or don't really care. (hey! >.>) So looks like things will be sticking this way ;D

Anyway, now the part you really care about... )
Congrats to the winners! :D You can go to [info]custom_banners for your banners and [info]tcg_exchange for all your card-related needs. We have a new theme up here that currently has 6 entries (!!) but no banner-maker. :( Comment if you'd like to make next week's banners ;)

Also have a new affiliate / shameless plug which is my community [info]manga_character which is an icontest that features a different Anime/Manga character each week. So please join!! I just started it up and don't have a lot of members yet. :( [/shameless plug] ok thanks ;)

Hey Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster! lol

Thanks for all the brilliant ideas you've given me! I've finally found my craft bone (knew it was hidden in there somewhere ;) )

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some links a site that teaches you how to make your own stencils?

I want to stencil some designs onto t-shirts with fabric paints for a couple of the guys in my family I'm having a hard time finding appropiate gifts for =)

Thanks in advance!

I think you can all tell by now that I'm a huge old-school Nintendo fan.

Crocheted Mario Rug

You could actually make any old Nintendo image this way because they're all pixelated and thus can easily be reproduced with square shapes. I'm sure there must be some website somewhere that has a bunch of pixel charts for all the characters, but my google-fu is weak today.

Here's a gift for anyone on your list who likes to sew. Hint: me. XD

Canning jar pincushion, with storage space!

Edit: You could also skip the cotton balls and just embroider something cute on a piece of fabric and stretch that over the lid and glue it in place - then you have a cute jar to keep just about anything in. You could do this with a recipe-in-a-jar, bath salts, journal jar, or leave it empty for the recipient to keep small things in. :)
